anusara
yoga: to step into the current.
Anusara Yoga, started by John Friend (www.anusara.com),
is based on principles of alignment - biomechanical ones that allow us to strengthen
core muscles that support the spine while relaxing periferal ones, and "heart"
principles that help us to remember and experience our own divinity. In Anusara
prenatal yoga, these principles can guide us toward a transformative, calm, and
highly enjoyable pregnancy. Anusara prenatal yoga can relieve
the common aches and pains such as those in the low back and pelvis, help support
and strengthen weak joints and core muscles, and give us the inspiration and courage
to face the challenges ahead. It opens the hips, thighs, and shoulders, and helps
us move through our day with a little more grace and ease. We learn postures and
alignment that help us find comfort and ease as we move through pregnancy labor,
and new motherhood
Mama Yogis enjoy clarity and focus, enabling us to stay present
and see the gifts that pregnancy has to offer. Giving birth is a great teacher:
each daily change in our bodyand life leads us to discover more and more about
the part of us that never changes. Getting a chance to share experiences with
other women helps us realize that we are not alone and that pregnancy is not a
competition, but a unique and profound journey for each of us. Finding support
from a kula means moving forward from a sense of trust and a feeling of quiet,
inner strength that we may never have known before. By aligning
with nature's deep intelligence within ourselves, we can use this time to manifest
our deepest intentions, our love for our baby, and to fully become the mother
that we are. This is a great time to get to get to know your growing baby, and
to slow down and get to know yourself on a deeper level. This heart-opening practice
reminds us that each of us is the divine embodied and allows to enjoy our experience
of co-creating with nature. Come try Anusara prenatal yoga
- whether in class or in your very own home - and celebrate your own amazing adventure!

Jessica's
yoga class was such a wonderful part of my pregnancy experience. Having that community
made me feel so much more connected to the reality of having a baby, and far more
comfortable in the later months of pregnancy. I also think that it has really
helped with my speedy recovery! I miss Jessica's yoga class, but I'm so happy
to be where I am now. Have fun with being pregnant and take as many yoga classes
as you can! Oh, and remember... the best is yet to come! - Wendy Nield
Jessica's
pre-natal yoga class is fantastic for all stages of pregnancy and is one of my
favorite things about being pregnant! - Jill Teitelbaum Jessica
is a true healer and a remarkable guide into the unknown - namely childbirth.
She radiates warmth and confidence and I feel I am in excellent hands. Each and
every prenatal yoga class proves a challenge to both themind and body. Jessica
also insures that this precious time that we have toourselves and to share with
one another is filled with enlightenment, a satisfying workout and perhaps above
all, a rare sense of wellbeing. Many thanks.
You rock. - Shawn Silver Having had
to work straight through my pregnancy, Jessica's pre-natal yoga class was the
one thing I really had to look forward to each week. I had such an easy pregnancy,
birth, and recovery, and am certain it has everything to do with staying fit,
healthy, and balanced through my yoga practice. - Bonnie Zane Jessica
brightened my light every Tuesday and Thursday, bringing peace to my mind, body
and spirit. Meeting other pregnant ladies was both comforting andeducational.
Prenatal Yoga gave me strength to pace myself during labor, with the help of all
that I had learned while practicing with instructor Jessica Jennings. -
Sheinina Raj Jessica's prenatal yoga
class has been a blessing during my pregnancy. This class has been both emotionally
and physically gratifying. On an emotional level, it has given me the opportunity
to interact and become friends with other pregnant women who share many of the
same joys and anxieties as I do about being pregnant. At the beginning of every
class, we introduce ourselves and share the latest news about our pregnancies. These
conversations and Jessica's meaningful commentary during class remind me of how
precious and beautiful my pregnancy truly is. On a physical level, the yoga, breathing
and meditation we practice gets rid of all my aches and pains and leaves me feeling
energized, happy and healthy. I highly, highly, highly recommend this class to
any pregnant woman! - Feri Ebrahimi
Jessica's
prenatal class is more than just yoga; she offers a variety of classes and workshops
that are an incredible resource for any parent-to-be and she always encouraged
an open and supportive dialogue.
thanks so much! -
Susan Morris I loved taking your
class. As you may know, I never did yoga until my 5th month of pregnancy. I became
more in touch with my pregnant body and I can not tell you how beneficial it was
for my labor. The breathing techniques, meditation and squatting exercises that
I practiced in Jessica's prenatal yoga class really helped me to better prepare
myself for natural childbirth. Prenatal yoga does wonders for the mind, body and
soul. It was good to surround myself around fellow pregnant women, discuss relevant
topics and build long lasting friendships. Every pregnant woman should be so lucky
to have the opportunity to go to Jessica's prenatal yoga, it lifts your spirits,
cleanses your mind and challenges your body. I felt refreshed and uplifted after
every class, which was a great way to start my day. I can't say enough positive
things about the class, I would definitely take it again. - Amy Rose Mushro
Jessica's
prenatal classes are a pregnant mom's safe haven. They are calming, supportive
as well as challenging. The workshops on infant care and breastfeeding were most
helpful to new moms such as myself who are curious and need help with birthing
choices. I loved coming to a place of calm two times a week--I felt like I was
doing something very positive for myself and baby.
Thanks
for all your beautiful classes and to all the other moms and dads who attended
with me. - Amy Tolsky I have
always been into Health and Fitness and taking care of myself but when i found
out i was pregnant i wanted to do more. I have been doing yoga only about once
every two weeks for the past year or so, but when i met Jessica and took her first
class i was hooked, every Tuesday and Thursday and i make sure i do not miss a
class! I feel relaxed, after i felt like a different person. I don't have any
girlfriends who have children or are pregnant, this class is great for meeting
new mommies too! Jessica makes every Mama feel special and really helps each one
with their weaknesses and educates us everyday on Breathing and what is important
for our Baby. I am hooked and tell everyone i know about City Yoga and Jessica's
class. - Tricia Teitelman
Since
it's so hard for me to get to Yoga on a regular basis, the most I can say is that
when I'm there I feel empowered and connected to myself and mybaby. Along with
totally aware of how much my body has changed and how what used to be the simplest
poses now are so challenging!
Jessica, you are
awesome - so compassionate and knowledgeable - and you create such a wonderful,
sacred space.
Thanks for all the opportunities! -
Kate Anthony I just wanted to let you know that your prenatal
yoga class was a terrific and memorable part of my first pregnancy. I began during
my 18th week and continued until my 38th week. Although for the most part I could
only attend your Saturday classes, I looked forward to going each week and was
disappointed whenever I couldn't make it. I not only enjoyed your guidance and
calm energy, but I also relished spending time with other "momma-to-be-yogis"
and watching all of our bellies grow in time. I'm convinced that yoga enabled
me to have an easy labor and recovery. Currently I'm attending Mommy & Me
classes with Patsy Baughn at City Yoga and I am so pleased to continue with yoga
as part of my son's life experience. - Chi-Chi Tse Jessica's
prenatal class is a warm, welcoming environment. It is a wonderfully non judgmental
group of women that all have very different ideas about child caring and birth.
You learn a lot about the different possibilities just by listening to the opening
class discussion. The class itself is relaxing and strengthen. Most importantly
it offers some real open honest communication between pregnant women in all different
stages.
I was in labor for 22 hours, and
I was told at 20 hours that my little girl was in stress and that I had 2 hours
of labor left, if nothing changed they would have to do an emergency c-section.
I immediately went into a meditation that I learned in class and visualized my
cervix opening up.
When my doctor returned
I was fully dilated and was able to have a vaginal birth. I completely credit
Jessica's class for helping me to remain calm and to focus on what needed to be
done. Knowing where to focus my energy and how to push was incredibly helpful
too. It only took 3 or 4 pushes before our bundle came into the world.
If
and when I undertake the daunting task of a second child, you better believe I
will be front and center in Jessica's class. - Andrea Baker
Yoga was the one and only physical/mind connection that felt good throughout my
pregnancy. Jessica was inspirational with her words and the work was what kept
me going through the pushing stages of labor. It will also help you truly connect
with your baby in the womb; even now she loves me to sing the opening invocation
to her! - Cindy Ricalde
the
yoga, the inner breath meeting with the outer strength is a learned task that
you, jessica and the practice has taught me. the identical outer strength &
inner breath that i employ every day as a new mother meeting my son, all hours
of the day & night for food, comfort, touch & laughter... thank you for
helping me find my inner core, the essence of myself that i utilize each moment
as a mother. i am so grateful. xoxo, sarah r. To
